Are We a Good Fit?

Choosing a pediatrician

It is crucial that you have given serious consideration to the fit between our practice philosophies and your own when choosing a pediatric practice for your children.

Excellent care happens when the physicians and office staff are aligned with your family's priorities and philosophies regarding medical care. Only then can shared decision-making be based on mutual respect.

Please read the following checklist carefully to be sure Priority Care Pediatrics is the appropriate medical home for your children.

We look forward to meeting you and forming a mutually rewarding relationship.

Replace Me
  • After Hours

At Priority Care Pediatrics, your child’s health and safety are always our top priority. We have a physician on call 24 hours a day to assist with urgent medical concerns that cannot wait until regular office hours.

    • To reach the on-call physician, please call our main office at 816-412-2900.
    • After-hours calls are first triaged by a registered nurse through our trusted nurse advice line. This service helps ensure that your child’s needs are addressed promptly and appropriately. Please note that our practice is charged $20 per call for this service, and you may be responsible for that fee depending on your insurance coverage or plan.
    • This service is intended for urgent medical issues only.
    • Medication refills, referrals, and routine questions will not be handled after hours.
    • If your child is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department.
  • Antibiotics

At Priority Care Pediatrics, we work hard to use antibiotics responsibly and only when they’re truly needed.

We take time to educate families on the appropriate use of antibiotics and follow evidence-based guidelines for every condition. Not all ear pain or green nasal drainage requires antibiotics — in many cases, these symptoms are caused by viruses that get better on their own.

For your child’s safety, we do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone, as an in-person evaluation is often necessary to make the best decision. We will prescribe antibiotics only when we believe they are the most appropriate treatment for your child’s illness. We work hard to not overuse antibiotics. We educate families on appropriate use of antibiotics, but follow evidence-based guidelines and don’t automatically treat ear pain or a green snotty nose with antibiotics.

We do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone as we do not believe that is good medicine. We will prescribe an antibiotic when we believe it is an appropriate treatment.

  • Billing

Insurance copays are due at the time of service.

If you are unable to make your copay at the time of your visit, please contact our billing department prior to your appointment to arrange a payment plan.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our practice running efficiently so we can continue to provide the highest quality care to all our patients.

  • Insurance

Before your visit, please make sure that we participate with your insurance plan.

It is the responsibility of each family to understand the limits and coverage of their individual health insurance policy. Please bring your insurance card to every visit and be prepared to pay any required copay at the time of service.

Our billing staff is happy to assist with general insurance questions; however, if you have specific questions about your coverage or benefits, it’s best to contact your insurance company directly.

We make every effort to help you avoid unexpected charges, but by law we must bill your health plan based on federal guidelines and the actual services provided.

Please read our Financial Policy for more information regarding insurance.

  • Medical Home

At Priority Care Pediatrics, we are committed to providing comprehensive, continuous care for your child — serving as your family’s trusted medical home.

To ensure the best possible care and communication, we ask that you contact our office first before visiting an urgent care center or scheduling with a specialist. Often, we can address your child’s needs right here in our office, or we can help you connect with the most appropriate specialist when necessary.

Whenever your child does see a specialist, please request that their report be sent directly to our office. This helps us keep your child’s medical record up to date and ensures that all members of your healthcare team are working together for your child’s well-being.

    Acute (Sick) Visits

If your child is sick or you have a health concern, please call our office. You’re welcome to schedule an appointment directly or ask to speak with our advice nurse.

Our triage team will listen to your concerns, offer guidance, and help determine whether your child needs to be seen in person. In some cases, an office visit may not be necessary — our nurse may provide home care advice or consult with a physician and call you back with recommendations.

If our nurse is assisting another family when you call, you may be asked to leave a message. Please rest assured that your call will be returned as soon as possible.

For your convenience, we also offer a Walk-In Clinic at our Parkville location, open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

This clinic is designed for quick, same-day sick visits — no appointment necessary.

    Well (Routine) Visits

For checkups, preventive care, and sports physicals, please call our routine appointment line.

Well visits can be scheduled up to 12 months in advance, allowing you to choose a time that best fits your family’s schedule. You’ll also receive an automated reminder about one week before your child is due for their next well visit.

    Coming Soon

We’re excited to share that soon you’ll be able to schedule appointments online or through our patient portal — making it even easier to access care when you need it.

  • Technology

At Priority Care Pediatrics, we pride ourselves on providing efficient, high-quality care by making the most of modern technology.

    We encourage all families to:

Visit our website for helpful resources and updates

Register for and use our Patient Portal to communicate securely, request refills, access records, and view test results

Take advantage of our automated reminders for upcoming appointments and for routine care or immunizations that are due

These tools help us stay connected, reduce wait times, and ensure your child receives timely, coordinated care.

  • Timeliness & Missed Appointments

At Priority Care Pediatrics, we make every effort to run on time because we value everyone’s time — yours and ours — equally.

As a courtesy, we send appointment reminders by phone, text, or email. To help your visit go smoothly, we recommend completing pre-registration before arrival. If pre-registration is not completed, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in and paperwork.

We understand that unexpected delays can happen. However, if you arrive late, we may need to reschedule your appointment to remain on schedule for other families.

    Missed Appointments

When an appointment is missed without notice, another child misses the opportunity to be seen. To keep access open for all families, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Our missed appointment policy is as follows:

    • A fee may be charged for canceled or missed appointments without proper notice.
    • A second missed appointment may result in an additional fee.
    • After three consecutive missed appointments, your family may be discharged from the practice.
    • For new patients, a fee may apply if the first appointment is missed.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide timely, high-quality care for all our patients.

  • Vaccines
    • At Priority Care Pediatrics, your child's health and safety are our top priorities. We follow the current vaccine schedule recommended by  The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) because it is based on the best available scientific evidence and reviewed by experts in children's health and infectious disease.
    • Vaccines protect children — and the community — from serious, preventable illnesses such as measles, whooping cough, and meningitis. The recommended schedule is carefully designed to provide protection when kids are most vulnerable, ensuring they develop strong immunity at the right time.
    • As part of our commitment to evidence-based, high-quality care, we require all patients to stay up to date on vaccines according to the AAP guidelines. This policy helps us maintain a safe environment for all children, especially those who are too young or medically unable to be fully vaccinated.
    • We’re always happy to discuss the schedule, answer questions, and work together to support your child’s health and wellbeing.
