Frequently Asked Questions
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we are always happy to welcome new patients to our practice!
If your child needs a well visit, please note that we require all prior medical records to be sent to our office before scheduling your appointment. This allows our physicians to review your child’s history in advance, ensuring shorter wait times and more personalized care.
Having the records ahead of time also helps us schedule the right amount of time for your visit — especially if there are additional concerns to address — and ensures that your last well visit was at least one year ago for insurance purposes.
If the full chart isn’t available yet, please ask your previous provider to fax your child’s vaccine record and most recent well visit summary to our office in the meantime.
Thank you for choosing us — we’re excited to partner with your family in caring for your child!

How do we contact the after hours doctor?
At Priority Care Pediatrics, your child’s health and safety are always our top priority.
We have a physician on call 24 hours a day to assist with urgent medical concerns that cannot wait until regular office hour.
To reach the on-call physician, please call our main office at 816-412-2900. After-hours calls are first triaged by a registered nurse through our trusted nurse advice line. This service helps ensure that your child’s needs are addressed promptly and appropriately.
Please note that our practice is charged $20 per call for this service, and you may be responsible for that fee depending on your insurance coverage or plan.
Medication refills, referrals, and routine questions will not be handled after hours.
If your child is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department.
What is a Pediatrician?
A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of children. Pediatricians have undergone special training in the health and illnesses of infants, teens and young adults, and the majority of pediatricians are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics after passing a comprehensive exam.
Pediatricians provide preventive health care for children in good health and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. They also provide parents with support and advice with issues such as growth and development, safety and prevention, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.
May I request a specific Pediatrician for my visit?
Every effort is made to arrange your child's well care and follow up visits with the physician of your choice. When your child is ill, he or she may see any one of our physicians.
How often does my child need to be seen in the office?
Our routine health maintenance visit schedule follows the American Academy of Pediatrics recomended schedule which can be found here : AAP Schedule of Well Child Care Visits
Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?
Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%.
If you're apprehensive about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
What immunizations will my child receive?
To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our pediatricians.
When will I receive lab or test results?
Result times vary depending on lab facility and tests ordered. You will be notified of any lab reults that require urgent attenton as soon as a provider has reviewed them.
Non-urgent abnormal lab results will be reviewed as soon as possible by the ordering provider. Normal values will be reviewed and addressed by the ordering doctor as soon as possible as well. You can expect a phone call, secure text or portal message with results.
How do I obtain a prescription refill?
Please call our office and follow the prompts for our prescription refill line. You can also request refills through the patient portal. Allow five business days for all routine prescription refills.
For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow time for refill approval.
Prescription refills for controlled substances will only be handled Monday through Friday by the original prescribing physician. All applicable laws will also be enforced and if ineligible, no refills will be given. We highly recommend scheduling all controlled substance med checks (i.e. ADHD) in advance to make sure you do not run out.
Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?
Yes, we support breastfeeding. We have lactation consultants on staff available to any breastfeeding mother. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies for the first six to twelve months. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, prevents allergies, and protects against a number of chronic conditions. While experts believe that breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants, breastfeeding may not be possible for all women.
Some women have specific medical considerations that impede breastfeeding; others choose to feed by formula because of discomfort, work schedule, or lifestyle choices. In these cases, an iron-fortified, milk-based infant formula is a good alternative. We will gladly discuss your diet and feeding concerns at your child's well care visit, or please call during office hours to speak with our experienced lactation staff.
I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?
We recommend that your newborn be seen in our office 1-2 days after discharge from the hospital. Our staff understands the importance of this first visit and will make every effort to schedule this visit promptly.
Which hospitals do we round at?
Some of our pediatricians do newborn nursery rounds at St. Luke's North, North Kansas City and Liberty Hospitals. When you check-in for delivery just tell them you are requesting Priority Care Pediatrics.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not cover pediatric hospitalizations.
